Rugged individualism is an inherent American ideal. It has been a bedrock of this nation since its beginning. As such, the Federalist Coalition supports public efforts that promote individual hard work, self-reliance, and economic contribution.

We also recognize that community and helping one’s neighbor are also inherent American Ideals. And, that by virtue of the success of our nation, citizens feel a moral obligation to protect and aid the poor.

The social safety net is important, but we do not believe its maintenance to be a lawful power of the federal government.  We therefore believe any form of government administered or funded aid should be managed exclusively at the state level where the needs of the people are best recognized. As Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security are currently tied to the federal government, we recognize that any changes will take time. We look forward to working within the institutions available to make this a reality.
